About Me

As a child, I fell in love with the natural world. As an adult, I’ve spent most of my time trying to defend it. Back in 2006, I joined the award-winning environmental consultancy Best Foot Forward as an analyst, and learned the fast-developing techniques of ecological and carbon footprinting. In 2008 I went freelance, and became the lead external carbon analyst for several major international development charities. I went on to hone my carbon auditing skills at several leading consultancies, working on the carbon footprints of a wide range of organisations, from large retailers and industrial manufacturers to educational charities and transport operators.

In 2020, I became Sustainability Advisor to the Gallery Climate Coalition, a network that now includes over 2,000 arts organisations in 65 countries, all committed to taking action to reduce their carbon emissions. I’m part of the core team behind the GCC Carbon Calculator, used by hundreds of arts organisations to calculate their emissions. I’m also Lead Consultant for Climate Action Services International (CASI), a new social enterprise that supports leading arts organisations to develop climate action plans.

I am the author of the No-Nonsense Guide to Climate Change (2011) and No-Nonsense Renewable Energy (2015), and write regularly on climate justice issues for New Internationalist Magazine.

I hold a BSc in Environmental Biology (University of Manchester), an MProf in Leadership for Sustainable Development (Forum for the Future via Middlesex University) and an MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Policy (Jesus College, Oxford).

I live in Oxford, UK with my partner and two cats, and spend as much time out in nature as I can.
